Railroad cars filled with gold ore traveled down Phantom Canyon to Florence from 1894 to 1912. With ample coal and water, Florence shared in the wealth of Cripple Creek by becoming a center for processing Cripple Creek's gold. By the turn of the century, nine reduction mills operated around the clock. Visit the Pioneer Museum to see memorabilia from Florence's past and take a stroll through historic downtown. Florence offers a variety of antique shops housed in its historic brick buildings, as well as galleries, restaurants and lodging. In 2002 the historic Rialto Theater opened after a 25-year hiatus - it has been refurbished to its 1923 grandeur. Six parks offer a variety of outdoor and interpretive opportunities.

A new 18-hole Gary Player Signature golf course - the first in Colorado - is under construction. Each September, Florence celebrates its heritage during Pioneer Days.
