FAQ
Are there mountain biking trails?
Dirt roads in the area offer a variety of terrain for mountain biking, with routes ranging from moderate gravel roads to challenging technical trails through diverse ecosystems. The Trails of Gold near Victor and Cripple Creek provide excellent mountain biking opportunities alongside hiking and horseback riding, allowing cyclists to explore historic mining areas while enjoying spectacular mountain views. The varied terrain along the byway includes everything from rolling mountain parklands to steep canyon descents, offering experiences for riders of all skill levels.
High Park Road and portions of Teller County Road 1 accommodate mountain biking on maintained surfaces suitable for wider-tired bikes, while more adventurous riders can explore numerous side roads and trails throughout the conserved lands along the byway. The elevation changes spanning up to 5,000 feet create challenging climbs rewarded with exhilarating descents through changing ecosystems from semi-arid grasslands to subalpine forests. Riders should be prepared with adequate water, repair equipment, and weather-appropriate clothing, as services are limited between communities and conditions can change rapidly at higher elevations.
