Walt Disney's Petrified Tree
In 1956, Walt Disney purchased a petrified tree stump from the Pike Petrified Forest near Florissant. The ancient specimen was transported to California and is still on display at Disneyland today, serving as a piece of Colorado's prehistoric past in the Magic Kingdom.
Tollkeeper's Climb
Toll collectors on Shelf Road lived in small cabins at either end of "The Shelf" section. Every time a horse, wagon, or stagecoach passed, the tollkeeper had to climb up the steep hillside to collect payment before the traveler could continue on their journey.
