Beaver Creek Wilderness
The 27,000-acre Beaver Creek Wilderness Study Area along Phantom Canyon Road offers miles of hiking trails through pristine backcountry. The area provides habitat for elk, black bears, and marmots, along with excellent trout fishing in Beaver Creek.
Tollkeeper's Climb
Toll collectors on Shelf Road lived in small cabins at either end of "The Shelf" section. Every time a horse, wagon, or stagecoach passed, the tollkeeper had to climb up the steep hillside to collect payment before the traveler could continue on their journey.
