The Ghost of Phantom Canyon
Legend says Phantom Canyon Road got its eerie name from an 1890s sighting of a ghostly figure in prison uniform walking along the railroad tracks. Passengers claimed the apparition was an executed inmate from the Colorado State Penitentiary who had died just days before the sighting.
Jack Dempsey's Signature
Victor City Hall, rebuilt in 1899 after a fire, contains the old town jail where legendary boxer Jack Dempsey once signed his name on a cell wall. Before becoming the world heavyweight champion, Dempsey worked in Victor's mines mucking ore for a living. He trained in Victor while earning money in the local mines during his early boxing career.
