Tunnels Beneath Victor's Streets
More than two miles of Gold Coin Mine tunnels still run beneath Victor's streets today. The Woods brothers built these tunnels to transport ore from their mine to the Economic Mill some 4,000 feet away in Arequa Gulch.
Bob Womack's $500 Mistake
Cowboy Bob Womack discovered gold at Poverty Gulch on October 20, 1890, igniting the Cripple Creek Gold Rush. Tragically, after a night of heavy drinking in Colorado Springs, Womack sold his El Paso claim for just $500—a site that would eventually produce over $350 million in gold.
