FAQ
Can I complete the byway in one day?
You can experience portions of the Gold Belt Byway in one day, and several one-day itineraries are specifically designed for visitors with limited time. However, completing the entire 131-mile route with stops at major attractions typically requires at least a full day of focused driving, and a more leisurely pace with time to explore communities, museums, and scenic viewpoints benefits from a two-day or multi-day visit. One-day itineraries focus on specific regions or themes, such as exploring Cañon City attractions, the Cripple Creek and Victor mining district, or the northern communities of Cripple Creek and Florissant.
If attempting to drive the full route in one day, start early and expect to spend 6-8 hours of actual driving time, not including stops for meals, attractions, or photography. The most practical one-day approach involves selecting one or two of the four main roads rather than attempting all routes, as driving narrow, winding sections requires slower speeds and careful attention. We recommend using professionally developed one-day itineraries that optimize your route to maximize experiences without rushing, or considering a two-day visit that allows you to explore the byway at a more comfortable pace while enjoying overnight accommodations in one of the five charming communities along the route.
