What does the byway association do?

The Gold Belt Byway Association promotes and protects the byway itself while proudly supporting the communities and people who live and work along the route. The organization has completed over two million dollars worth of projects ranging from helping landowners protect their lands to creating signage for local communities to use for educational purposes. These projects preserve the rural lifestyle, natural environment, and rich cultural and historic heritage that make the Gold Belt Byway unique among Colorado's scenic routes.

Through education and outreach, the association shares the byway with the world while working to maintain healthy habitat for wildlife, preserve open space and rural lands, and promote tourism that contributes to local economies without intruding on community privacy. The organization sponsors events like disc golf tournaments and photo competitions that engage both visitors and residents in celebrating the byway. The association administers grant programs, coordinates with governmental and nongovernmental organizations, and provides stewardship for the 131-mile route. By carefully planning and guiding future growth and development, the byway association ensures that changes remain compatible with community values established by the 38-member planning committee that completed the vision and goals in 1997.
