FAQ
What is the Gold Belt Tour Scenic and Historic Byway?
The Gold Belt Tour Scenic and Historic Byway is a nationally designated scenic byway located in southern Colorado, connecting five historic communities through 131 miles of spectacular mountain roads. First designated as a BLM Backcountry Byway in 1989, it became one of Colorado's first five State Scenic and Historic Byways that same year. In June 2000, the byway achieved National Scenic Byway designation, earning recognition as one of 13 America's Byways in Colorado.
The byway retraces historic travel routes that once connected the Cripple Creek and Victor Mining District, site of the world's largest gold rush, to the communities of Florence, Cañon City, and Florissant. Today, we invite visitors to experience rich local heritage as they follow these historic "Roads to Riches." The Gold Belt Byway is managed by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the rural lifestyle, natural environment, and rich cultural and historic heritage along the route.
